Get the most from a parent-teacher conference

Conferences are short. A checklist for before, during and after, so the ten minutes go to what matters.

Your progress

Before

Ask your student what is going well and what is hard in this class
Look at the grade book and any missing work
Write down your top two questions; the time goes fast

Questions to ask

What does my child do well in your class?
Where are they losing points, and what would help most?
How can my child get extra help, and when?
How do they get along with classmates and participate?
What is the best way to reach you?

After

Share one positive comment from the teacher with your student
Agree on one change to try for the next few weeks
Send a short thank-you email that confirms the plan
